Our top 7 Easter eggs

Who doesn’t love an Easter Egg? Preferably with a lot of chocolate involved in our case.

Here’s a list of our 7 favourite ways to enjoy eggs this weekend, whether it’s a gorgeous chocolate treat, ideas on how to decorate half a dozen to make great colourful treats for a children’s Easter Egg Hunt, or just a beautiful centrepiece for your dining table.

If you do decide to give egg decorating a go, let us know how it goes and send us some photos of the finished results by tweeting Anna at @Anna_Scholz and she’ll share her favourites online to help everyone get in the Easter mood.

Nail Polish Dip Dye

Nail Polish Dip Dye

Title line

We’ve recently discovered Nail Polish Dip Dyeing, and are already fans. For such a simple procedure it gives an impressive and eye-catching result, and whether you choose complimentary pastel shades or bright and loud colours for the nail polishes, it always gives a nice finish. It’s a great art activity to do with the kids too, as being a bit messy just adds to the effect, but we would recommend doing it outside as all the nail polish does give off quite a bit of fumes!

These chocolate eggs are almost too beautiful to eat! Almost. They are made using high quality cocoa beans, which come in 3 designs – Giraffe, Zebra Dark and Zebra White, animal prints that the fashion label has become well-known for using in their clothing designs. The designs come in a combination of white, milk and dark chocolate, and contain a surprise pendant from the designer inside.

 Doodle Eggs

This is great fun for everyone, all you need for this effect is a sharpie or permanent pen. Natural pastel coloured eggs or previously dyed ones both work well as a base as they contrast well with the black ink of the pen. You can also combine your doodling with watercolours to make them really colourful. We love the simplicity involved and just think of the oodles of doodles you can try out.

Gold Leaf

Adding gold leaf gives a glorious finish to any egg decoration. It works especially well when paired with the more unusual coloured eggs such as the pastel blues, greens and red-browns. The gold leaf finish can be combined with any of our other decorating ideas to give a wonderful finishing touch. Gold leaf can be found in any good art shop.

 Green & Blacks
Cocoa Garden

Green & Black's

Green & Black’s make us feel good about eating Easter Eggs. They really know what to do when it comes to chocolate. They have an honourable organic philosophy behind their recipes, support and treat their workers well and ethically and have a variety of essences, from white to dark chocolate, flavoured with orange, toffee, ginger and everything in between. No guilt chocolate in our opinion.

The hand-painted effect on these eggs definitely makes them stand out, and that coupled with the tasty selection of chocolates hidden instead definitely make this a winner in our book: Dark Almond Marzipan, Milk Salted Lemon and White Chocolate Almond to name a few. There is even the option of having a name piped in chocolate onto the outside, to give it a personal touch.

Fabergé Eggs

Of course, you can’t eat these and they are not covered in chocolate but how can we talk about eggs without mentioning the wonderful and glorious Fabergé eggs?  These beautiful and highly decorative eggs started off as Easter gifts for the Tsars of Russia and their wives. Produced between 1885 and 1917 about 65 eggs were created, of which 57 are still in one piece and are currently housed in a number of exhibitions and private collections across the world.  Even our Royal Family own 3 which are housed in the Royal Collection. The Rothschild Egg which doubles as a clock is the most expensive sold so far, for a staggering £8.9 million in 2007.
