Gilbert Legrand – Household objects as you’ve never seen them before.
Gilbert Legrand is a French artist whose creativity allows him to find faces and characters in ordinary objects. He brings these to life for others to see through his illustration and 3d sculptures.
As a child Gilbert admitted he ‘had a little obsession’ even inventing new toys by using everyday domestic utensils This encouraged Gilbert to become an illustrator which gave him the license to sketch the faces he constantly saw in the objects all around him.
Once he had fully developed his sketching and illustrating, he began to use actual objects like scissors, brushes, zippers, and various pieces of cutlery, turning them into whimsical sculptures.
With the addition of a face and some arms and legs, a paintbrush can become a mangled fox, a hinge can become a shady salesman, and a comb can become someone fighting against a gust of wind.
The Paris-born artist currently works in Toulouse and has been creating these imaginative sculptures for over 10 years. Fortunately for us, Legrand regularly exhibits his works in art centres across France, so try and find a show on your next visit.
