Christmas TV Adverts

November 13, 2014 / 1 Comment

Christmas seems to creep up on all of us every year, and the adverts and promotions appear on our screens earlier and earlier. This year is no exception with our high street stores and supermarkets battling for the best Christmas TV advert to entice us through their doors to do our Christmas food and present shop.

Here’s a pick of the best ones on your TV screen now:

John Lewis have taken the romantic approach this Christmas, by introducing the lonely penguin Monty.  The advert shows Monty and his owners adventures, until poor Monty discovers he has no one to love. His owner notices his lack of romance and finds him a mate, which he plays cupid on Christmas morning. This advert seems to have captured the hearts of the young and old. Be sure to have some tissues on hand when watching this tear jerker.

Waitrose has followed the life of a young schoolgirl put in charge of creating gingerbread for her schools Christmas Stall. It shows the determination and frustrations of mastering the perfect gingerbread, of which all the ingredients are bought at Waitrose.

Sainsbury’s has recreated one of the most famous moments from the First World War in its 2014 Christmas advert in partnership with armed forces charity the Royal British Legion.

The ad is a ‘creative interpretation’ of Christmas Day 1914 when British and German soldiers laid down their weapons and met in no man’s land.

Famously they shared greetings, treats, mementos and even a game of football before returning to fighting the following day. Another tear jerker, that captures kindness and happiness in what would have been a horrible and lonely time.

Marks and spencer have dropped out of a celebrity filled advert this season and decided to add a little sparkle to their adverts by following the fairies. The advert shows a day in the life of being a Christmas Fairy. Watch as they fly across the sky, ensuring presents are what the receiver wants, outfits are perfect and glamorous, even helping find a stranger find their lost cat in time for Christmas day. Follow the Magic on Twitter  http://twitter.com/thetwofairies and watch as the fairies spread their festive kindness and evoke magic and sparkle across the nation.

Mulberry has taken a jest approach with their Christmas advert, by claiming a Bayswater handbag is the best present over a waving puppy and a unicorn. Do you want to #winchristmas this season? Looks like a Mulberry handbag is just the right thing to ensure that.

We’re all torn in the office to what one is our favourite. Each has a little special something that contributes to the festive feeling at this time of year. Is Monty the penguin your favourite adorable penguin? Or could you do with the magic Marks and Spencer fairies sprinkling a little fairy dust on your Christmas plans?
