Now with summer on its way, we can put a bit more effort into our hairstyles, as they’re not going to be stuffed and flattened under hats and hoods to protect them from the rain! So here is a list of some of our favourite hair trends, and what outfits we think would complement them best.
Scruffy hair never goes out of fashion. It makes you look like you just rolled out of bed looking this beautiful! Many hairstyles can be adapted to be ‘messy’, so the possibilities are endless – all you need is some backcombing and hairspray.
This would go perfectly with a perfectly tailored suit, and natural makeup, to contrast the laidback hairstyle.
Babylights are the toned down version of highlights: using smaller sections of hair, and less brightly coloured dye, for the sun-kissed look of a child who spends all their time playing around in the sun. It’s a great way to update your hair without making a big change, and the upkeep is easy as the out-growth isn’t obvious.
This would go perfectly with pretty much anything! Especially when styled into flowing beach waves: we think it would lend itself to a boho look – so try pairing it with a flowing printed maxi dress.
Crimped sections are one way to liven up a boring ponytail. Don’t worry, we’re not going back to the 80s here – crimping sections of your hair will bulk it up and make it a bit more interesting, but it won’t be too over-the-top.
This would go perfectly with loud and bright makeup, for a rock and roll vibe, which would be perfect for cocktails on a Saturday night.
Fishtail braids look gorgeous, but may take a bit of practice to get it perfect – we’ve found a great tutorial to help give you a hand though. They can be worn at the back, or as a side plait, perfect or messy.
This would go perfectly with a simple but striking outfit; how about a bright single-coloured shift dress, with a pair of black boots?
Hair accessories are a quick and easy way to update your look, when you’re having a bad hair day and want to cover up, or a good hair day and want to draw attention! Bright hairbands, intricate hair grips, patterned scrunchies, decorative hair ties – the list is endless, and complement a number of fashion trends.
This would go perfectly with the festival look, especially plaited headbands and delicate hair crowns. Hair grips with gorgeous metal designs attached to them suit most outfits too, especially if they have an off-gold or silver finish.
